Short description:

ESMERALDA aims to deliver a ‘flexible methodology’ for pan-European, national and regional ecosystem service (ES) mapping and assessment.

Aims:

ESMERALDA aims to deliver a ‘flexible methodology’ that can simultaneously provide innovative building blocks for pan-European, national and regional ecosystem service (ES) mapping and assessment (the MAES process). This will ensure the timely delivery by all EU member states of Action 5 of the European Biodiversity Strategy, and local assessments required for spatial planning, agriculture, climate, water and nature policy. The project will create ES mapping and assessment strategies in the EU Member States, and will transmit experience through an active process of dialogue and cocreation of knowledge, that will empower the participants and relevant stakeholders to achieve the aims of Action 5.
